Welcome to the new website/blog! Take a look around. Not bad, WordPress.
It was time to consolidate Child’s Own Studio’s website and blog. I also got rid of the FormMail order form (didn’t take PDFs and found lots of spam for me) and I have eliminated the gift certificate, because I really do need to see the drawing beforehand.
Everything else is pretty much the same: same e-mail address: info@childsown.com (looks anonymous, but this is The One And Only e-mail account).
I’m also hoping that this blog format is better at communicating the fact that I am a one-person-working-in-the-spare-bedroom-artisan. When I first started Child’s Own Studio, I took a business course, where I learned how using “we” communicates a professional business presence, but really there is no “we”. Just me.
I still haven’t figured out how to hire someone to help me. Every soft toy is a unique project – and if it doesn’t come out right- like today’s project- I do it over again. Because I’m Mme Pickypants.
Recently, I tried to get my son (nine years old) to help me around the studio, but he didn’t like working for Mme Pickypants.
You might suggest that I (really) hire someone else to help me with the admin stuff, packaging and photography, so that I could just focus on the softie-making. I’d tell you that I enjoy doing all the other stuff, if only because it provides me with a break from softie-making. You might then say, well, you’re not running a business. And I’d say, you’re right, this isn’t a business. This is a craft.
Maybe if I offered more money to my son…

This is fantastic. I absolutely love it.
So here’s a thought on balancing out supply and demand…increase your prices. From a business point of view, you will have a lower volume of orders coming in (but they will not stop because well this is a custom one of a kind genius product) Then once you’ve caught up on orders you can always do a sale with lower prices. Your work is truly worth a lot and people will pay for it. If you are going to be swamped and going bonkers you may as well make it worth your while. By the way, i adore your work.
I would love to know how to order.
WOW! Its simply Amazing how perfectly you animated a child’s art into a 3d character they can hold! I am now going to go dig through my 17 and 14 year olds past artwork! There just may be a creation needing to be brought to life! Keep up the great work!
You are truly an artist. I love this>
I am in awe of your talent! It is an amazing thing to see how you translate the flat image from a child’s imagination into a 3 dimensional one. I love seeing what you create!
What a faaaaabulous thing to do- I hope those children that REALLY need a self-esteem boost can get one here- thanks,
Absolutely love your original idea! Beautiful work! Shared your website on Facebook!
Oh wow – sometimes, you wouldn’t care for the child’s original drawing, but you manage to turn the plushies into something actually adorable and beautiful!
Please keep up with the wonderful work!
Awsome! I’ll be telling everyone I know all about it!
Your work is remarkable. I’ve had a dabble with interpreting a few of my young nephew’s drawings into sock creatures – it was great fun being able to ignore the urge to make everything to uniform sizes and really get stuck into the wonderfully random shapes and expressions that children come up with. I’ll enjoy looking at any new creations. Shaz x
This is such an enchanting, wonderful idea.
Love it. Love it. Love it.
Like the new site! FWIW, it’s quick and easy to import your old blog into the new.

Thanks JJ for the tip! I just did it – you’re right, it WAS easy.
Good luck Wendy, loving the work. Was going to do something similar myself but l see you have it all ‘sewn’ up! Let me know if you need an out worker – l have plenty of photos of kids drawing as l volunteer at the Hepworth (Wakefield) gallery workshops. (How would they translate into sculpture?)
I admire you and your pursuit of your craft! Who cares about business, you have a great approach. Each time I check back I am so impressed with your artist interpretation and ability to translate a child’s art and creative spirit into a huggable, loveable toy. I love it. Just waiting for my 3 year old to produce an original work of art that I can send you!! Not too much longer!
Dear Wendy, good luck with the new look! And I’d be so happy to help you with the softies – but I live too far from you… Looking forward to your new posts:-)
